Hi, I was Anne Tickle (now North)
from 1962 intake. The memories I would like to share are
the outside loos that froze in the winter and we would get sent home
from the old St. Ed's at the top of the market place. We used to walk
across the tarmac to the hall, where we had assembly and Scottish
Dancing taught by "Taf". We had to walk to the Old Vicarage for art and
pottery which I enjoyed. I think some of those classrooms at the back of
the school were like the old wards at Harold Wood Hospital, kind of
prefabricated. The teachers had a tiny brick building of their own I
believe.
Also, remember the move to the new
St. Ed's in about 1965. Princess Margaret opened the school officially.
She had on layers of make up for the cameras, I was amazed.
Our year was the first to use the new
6th form suite. It was great. We could make our own tea and toast after
school and listen to music in our common room.
