We visited in April to dedicate the building which had just
had the roof put on. They are going to call it the
Matendo (meaning God Provides) Vocational Skills
Centre.
Since our visit a local charity Christian Hope International
who have been supporting our work donated £4,500 to pay for
windows and doors to be fitted, desperately needed for
security as things had been disappearing. When we were
in Uganda it was estimated that windows, doors, plastering
externally and internally, guttering to save rainwater,
toilet and kitchen facilities; would cost approx. £10,000 to
get the Centre up and running as soon as possible -we are
still fundraising but are about £3,500 short at the moment.
You will see from the photos that we held a dedication
service in the Conference Room (without windows and bare
bricks). This Room will be hired out to help sustain
the work of the Training Centre. When we were in
Uganda we met with the Local Government Minister and they
have promised their support for the Centre.
Christian
Hope International are planning to ship a container to
Kibaale in October with sewing machines, tables, chairs,
machinery and possibly computers so they can start full
classes by the end of the year. For the timebeing the Centre
hopes to take a mixture of girls & boys to start with the
things we were able to take over in April.
We continue to trust in the Lord and our friends - it was a
wonderful experience for us to share a service followed
by lunch with about 150 people - especially as everything
was cooked on three charcoal pots, absolutely incredible.
God Bless,
Gail
